Years Teaching

Alex Rogers

I'm a qualified English teacher and SEND specialist based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. With over nine years of experience in further education, I've worked with hundreds of learners, many with complex additional needs including autism, dyslexia, and SEMH challenges.

My teaching philosophy centres on patience, creativity, and building genuine connections with students. I believe every learner can succeed when given the right support and environment. My background in both education and care work has given me a deep understanding of how to support young people facing barriers to learning.

I currently work as a Part-Time Teacher at Southend Adult Community College and as a Cover Supervisor across Essex schools, keeping my skills sharp and my teaching approaches current.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about tutoring services

How do sessions work?

Sessions are one-to-one and typically last one hour. They can be conducted online via Zoom/Teams or in-person at your home or a mutually convenient location in the Southend area.

What ages do you teach?

I work with students from Key Stage 3 (Year 7) through to adult learners. My experience spans secondary school students, college students, and adults returning to education.

How often should we have sessions?

Most students benefit from weekly sessions to maintain momentum. However, I'm flexible and can accommodate more frequent sessions during exam periods or less frequent for ongoing support.

What if we need to cancel?

I understand life happens. Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule. Cancellations with less notice may be charged at 50% of the session rate.

Do you provide resources?

Yes, all resources are included in the session price. I create personalised materials, practice papers, and revision guides tailored to each student's needs.

How do I pay?

Payment is typically made via bank transfer at the end of each month, or in advance for block bookings. I can also accommodate other payment methods if needed.

What's the free consultation?

The initial consultation is a 20-30 minute chat (phone or video call) where we discuss your child's needs, goals, and any concerns. There's no obligation to book sessions afterwards.

Do you work with schools?

Yes, I'm happy to liaise with your child's school or SENCO to ensure consistency and share progress. This is particularly valuable for students with EHCPs.
