I've been photographing the British & Irish uplands since 2008. Large-format, black-and-white, mostly on film. A small body of work each year — a handful of places, often returned to in different seasons.
Prints are sold as signed, numbered archival editions through this site and through three galleries. Most editions are of thirty; a few are unique prints.
Based in Galway, working from a studio overlooking the Corrib. Visits to the studio by appointment.
Each edition is printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta 315gsm, signed in pencil, and shipped rolled or flat-packed to order. Four available now; others on request.
Benbulben from the south face, on an evening in February. Eight-minute exposure on 4 × 5 Tri-X; printed in 2025 from the 2024 negative.
The Black Cuillin from the Sligachan side, eight minutes before sunset. Four-minute exposure; the ridge remains visible through the last of the light.
Connemara coast at low tide, the sea pulled back to the far horizon. A longer exposure flattens the water into a silk.
The Twelve Bens after the January snows. A rare clear morning; sixteen-minute exposure for the clouds; unique print.
Two shows and one group show through 2026. Prints are available for viewing at the galleries; direct sales remain through this site.
Solo show. Eighteen new plates from the Connemara series, 2022-2025. All prints framed.
A room in the group show, Quiet Lines. Six plates from the 2025 Cuillin work.
A retrospective room of one print per year from 2016 to 2025, at the home gallery.
Updated about once a month. Notes on new plates, the printing process, days in the field. Not a blog, not really a newsletter.
A second week on Skye. Three plates worth keeping — the slowest was a 22-minute at dawn on Sgùrr nan Gillean.
Plate 09 (Reed bed, Connemara) is now at edition 30 of 30. Last three prints shipped this week.
A long afternoon at the gallery with Alex, agreeing hang heights and the final eighteen. The two biggest plates get a wall each.
First open studio of the year on 12 April. Space for twelve; RSVP on the enquiry form.
Edition enquiries and studio-visit bookings both come through this form. Replies within five working days; my studio manager Róisín handles all logistics from enquiry onwards.
All editions are printed to order, signed and numbered in pencil. Lead time is three to four weeks for standard sizes; eight weeks for the larger unique prints.
I open the studio four times a year. Twelve visitors, ninety minutes, tea afterwards. No fee; donations to the local walking clubs welcomed.
Occasionally I accept private commissions — a place of personal significance, photographed over two visits. From €18,000, with a year's lead time.
